In April of 2008, Washington tribes, tribal leaders, and tribal members joined together to create the Native Vote Washington.
What Is Native Vote Washington?
Native Vote Washington is a non-partisan, non-profit corporation. Our goal is to raise our collective voice by increasing Native voting in every election.
Native Vote Washington is a grassroots organization that depends on YOU to help educate, activate and empower all Native people.
Native Vote Washington will also recruit and train Native candidates to run for elected office in Washington at local, county, and statewide races.
Our membership is open to all Native and non-Natives who share the common goal of increasing the Native Vote, educating the public on Native issues, and encouraging Native candidates to run for office.
We are now in the process of planning a statewide Summer Bus Tour that is coming to reservations across Washington. We would also like your help in planning a series of rallies and music concerts to raise awareness and register voters for the state and presidential elections this fall.
Get Involved
Getting involved can be as easy as door-to-door awarness on your free time.
Every four years, we as tribal members from various tribal nations hear the call to vote. Although it’s been good to hear tribal leaders stress the importance of voting, some how, some way, we seem to hear this call 4 weeks to the vote.
Having taken part in the DNC’s Native Vote Outreach in the 2004 Kerry v. Bush National Election in New Mexico, we were tasked with going door-to-door with four weeks until big vote.
Thank God the Navajo decided to have their own tribal elections concurrently with the US elections, or else the small mountain we were destined to climb may have been Mount Everest.
My point to all of this is this: We must get the word out to vote now, with months ahead of us, and not just weeks prior to the Tuesday National Election.
Please do your part to get your friends and relatives registered to vote and make our ancestors proud by representing your voice this November through your vote!!
